Pikey Peak Trek

Chyangba Village (3,500m) is situated in the north of Kathmandu and is about 400km from the capital. The village does not lie on the trail of the trekker, yet the beauty of nature and the rich cultural heritage makes this village a special place on earth. Inhabited by many ethnic groups such as Sherpas, Rai, Magar, Newar, Tamang, Chhetris, Brahmins, Viswakarma, Sunuwar, there are about 150 homes. People here are mostly farmers who grow cabbage, apple, corn, wheat, barley, peach, radish, buckwheat, millet and so on. Friday market is an opportunity to see where people come to sell their products or trade their crops for rice, tea, salt, sugar, butter, spices, soaps from nearby villages. At this height, numerous species of rhododendron, edible mushrooms and wild strawberries grow in nearby forests. You can see wild animals such as lions, jackal, white and red monkeys and different kinds of birds. Mani Rimdu is a special festival of Buddhism that takes place at the Chyangba Gompa where Buddhist monks wear masks and robes of different deities and perform dances. There is also a shaman ritual celebrated once a year where people gather near a stream of water to watch shamans perform unique rituals as they worship their spiritual gurus. Pikey Trek is a convenient trekking route among other treks with a Pikey Peak (4,068m) being one of the highest mountains in Solu (Everest region's lowlands). The Pikey name is taken from the two Sherpa people's names. It is well known for its glorious sunrises, the Himalayan mountains such as Mt. Everest, Makalu, Kanchenjungha, Gauri Shankar, Lhotse Shar, Numbur, Khatang, Karyalung, Annapurna, Nuptse, Amadablam, Shishapangma, Thamserku, the Rhododendron forest, the history of Sherpa and its rituals. This trail starts through Jiri, Shivalaya, Bhandra, Namkheli, Ngaur to reach the villages of Pikey Danda(Hill) Chyangba, Bhitta kharka and Phaplu. Trekking the Pikey Trek Base Camp is one of the Everest region's most common trekking trails, potentially one of the lower elevation viewpoints to see Mt. Everest (8,848 m). It is renowned for its spectacular Himalayan scenery like the mountain range, the Rhododendron forest, Magnolia and wild orchids. Observing nearby monasteries is the main highlight of this trail; the Chewang monastery will be the perfect opportunity to explore spiritual paths.
